The LDF Government in Kerala today launched a novel health project `Dr SMS' in Kozhikode (Calicut) to help people get the right  information in case they come down with acute sickness.

Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan inaugurated the scheme, claimed to be first of its kind in the country.

The project offers information on mobile about the nearest hospital available to treat the concerned ailment once the person sends an SMS message to `health space area pincode'.

The district administration has also provided a mobile number on which all such details will be made available to the caller. The scheme, being tried out for the first time in Kerala in this district, would also be extended to other parts of the state soon, Achuthanandan said.

District Collector Dr A Jayathilak said those who happened to fall sick, particularly when alone, could make use of the service to their benefit. X
