Lenovo unleashes big huge monster Thinkpad

How long will the battery last, sir?

Lenovo, which recently started giving Microsoft headaches after PC maker No. 4 said it was considering going Microsoft Free has announced a 17 inch Thinkpad dubbed the W700.

The W700 will be shipped with Intel's quad core CPUs as soon as the hit the market and sports Nvidia's Quadro FX mobile graphics chip, which hopefully doesn't have any overheating issues. The new Thinkpad can be had with up to 8GB of memory and two HDDs in a RAID configuration. As if all of that weren't enough already, it also includes a built-in digitizer and colour calibrator. Lenovo refrained from mentioning price, battery time and weight.

The new razorback will certainly look nice when lugged around in the same bag with the Atom-charged Ideapad netbook it announced beginning of August. The two pound light unit will only be one-inch thick and comes with a 10.2 inch screen, Expresscard slot, two USB ports and a card reader. The S10 Ideapad will be available with 512MB memory and a 80GB HDD, or 1GB memory and a 160GB HDD, making it far more interesting than the eeePC, especially considering the price tag starts at $399.

Lenovos notebook division has been making the company and its shareholders very happy recently. The Chinese PC Maker said it had sold 22% more notebooks year-over-year in the fourth quarter of its last fiscal year. X
