Machine produces water out of thin air

Beer would be better

By Andrew Thomas @ Thursday, July 17, 2008 12:05 PM

A new machine that produces drinking water from thin air has been launched in the UK.

The Waterex M1 atmospheric water dispensing generator uses electricity to condense and extract moisture from the air and convert it into drinking water. Its output depends on the level of humidity in the air and the temperature, and it produces cold, warm and hot water for around 1p ($0.05) a litre. The machine prefers a humid atmosphere, but will also operate in regions with lower humidity.

A seven stage filtration system ensures the water is free of chemicals and extremely healthy. Whilst tap water usually contains bacteria and other organisms, the water produced by the Waterex M1 has no contamination whatsoever, say the makers. The machine also operates as a dehumidifier.

The machine is claimed to be able to replace bottled water costing around 40p ($0.82) a litre by producing pure water at 1p a litre, reducing the environmental impact of packaging and transporting bottled drinking water.

We look forward to the launch of a machine that can produce beer out of thin air. X
