The Indian state of Maharashtra reportedly provides the highest level of IT education in India to its students.
"In absolute terms, Maharashtra has the highest number of schools - 28,882, which constitutes 33.42 per cent of its total schools - that have computers in schools, followed by 19,154 schools in Andhra Pradesh, 16,064 schools in Madhya Pradesh, 13,336 schools in Rajasthan, and 11,603 schools in Tamil Nadu," said Professor Arun C Mehta.
Mehta, author of a study entitled "Strengthening of Education Management Information System in India," also explained that the state of Tamil Nadu maintained a mere 11,603 schools equipped with computers. As such, just 22.13 per cent of students studying at 52,423 schools had access to IT technology in their facilities.
As IT Examiner previously reported, the government recently announced plans to establish eight new IITs, seven IIMs and 16 central universities. According to prime minister Manmohan Singh, the country is capable of adequately training more than 500 million individuals by the year 2022.
It should be noted that a number of local corporations have also been active in promoting educational IT programmes.
For example, Everonn Systems now offers digitalised content and interactive learning tools to students of the Gandhiniketan Ashram School in Tamil Nadu. This popular pilot initiative will eventually supply 1,000 rural educational facilities with IT infrastructure and quality content designed to enhance learning.
Everonn Systems currently maintains 232 schools, 239 colleges and 29 retail centres on its virtual platform. In addition, the company provides various aspects of IT education to a toal of 4,200 schools. X
