Microsoft has decided to buy Israeli start-up Zoomix in a deal estimated to be worth $25 million.

Zoomix uses 'self-learning' software which can analyse, classify and clean up databases and apply what it continues to learn to every new piece of information.

The plan is to stick the technology under the bonnet of Microsoft's SQL Server and Zoomix employees will join the company's development centre in Herzliy, Israel.

Zoomix CEO, Amir Biran, said the company was excited about 'the technological and business challenges' upon joining Microsoft. Moshe Lichtman, vice president of Microsoft International and president of R&D in Israel said that it was important that Microsoft spend cash on more R&D development into the field of solutions for databases. He added that the area was becoming more important strategically. X
