Microsoft charged man $1,632 for Vista

Now will not return his money

A man who tried to buy a Microsoft licence for a Windows Vista Ultimate upgrade using his debit card is fuming that the software giant will not return money caused by its fault web site.

According to the Consumerist, when ever the man, identified only as Bill, tried to his enter his payment details through Windows Live Marketplace he got a message to please try later.

Seven goes later, he got his licence, but when he checked his bank statement and discovered that each time Microsoft had cocked up, the software giant had collected hims money. .

Doing the maths, Bill entered his payment information seven times. Each attempt cost him $233.15. Now his bank account is out $1,632. Since he used a debit card instead of a credit card he can't get the money back unless Microsoft refunds it.

Unfortunately Microsoft does not seem particularly interested in getting the money back to him. After lots of angst and hand wringing he managed to get four of the seven wrong payments reversed but the other three seem to have disappeared into thin air. You can read more about this at the Consumerist, here. X
