Maximum security information lock-down

MXI Security and Unisys have unveiled a new USB-based device to secure virtual desktops.

The 2140 transforms any PC into a secure Windows XP terminal with an encrypted, read-only boot drive. The unit also prevents access to DVD drives, USB ports and data transfer abilities.

"The Unisys consolidated desktop dolution (CDS) eliminates many of the risks and costs inherent to the end-user work environment by virtualising and hosting PC or desktop processing and data on centralised servers and storage systems," Lawrence Reusing, CEO, MXI Security, told IT Examiner. "This fresh approach to the traditional PC gives end users the look and feel of a personalised desktop environment while providing IT operations better control over end-user functionality, data backup and security."

Reusing explained that the 2140 provided a maximum security lock-down solution for critical data.

"By integrating MXI Security's technology into [the] consolidated desktop solution, Unisys can offer businesses a secure way to lock down PCs and provide the security required for virtual desktops," said Reusing.

Unisys offers a range of  devices to protect Windows-based PCs. For example, the 6140 features a pre-integrated keyboard, video and mouse, while the 4140 is designed to replace traditional CPU towers. X
