Navy officers charged with computer sabotage

Petty offence

By Dave Murray @ Wednesday, August 13, 2008 10:06 AM

Two navy officers have been charged with sabotaging a high-security database in Ottawa.

Petty Officer Second Class Sylvia Reid and Petty Officer Second Class Janet Sinclair have been charged with one count of sabotage, conspiracy, mischief in relation to data and willful property damage. According to the Canadian Forces Press office the two women turned over a classified government database.

At the time both Reid and Sinclair were working for the Military Police at Canadian Forces Support Unit in Ottawa. According to military legal experts the sabotage charge is rare and only usually levelled at foreign agents. However this case is an oddity because the pair are still working for the military. X
