The Indian Navy plans to take advantage of the power of IT and accomplish net-centricity through the integration of naval units and their information resources in association with the IT industry.

The Naval Symposium on Information Systems (NAVSIS) to be held on 06 and 07 Oct 08 at Indian Habitat Centre, Lodi Road is a step towards this. The seminar will address concerns such as next generation networks, network centric operations, open source systems and SaaS, identity management, access control and surveillance, trends in IT training, green computing, public domain for private use, ERP, enterprise information security management, encryption and steganography, the art of hiding Information.

The navy states that the strength of any organisation is decided by its information infrastructure and how prudently it is utilized for improving overall operational efficiency. Networking systems are important and its strength is crucial in supporting net centricity. An ideal blend of security policy and technology is therefore important to ensure the necessary information assurance.

A number of projects powered by latest technology have already been implemented. However, the navy sees a need to set a standard that meet the international levels and sensitise the personnel before implementing them. According to the navy, the only way to achieve this is through partnership with others navies operating in similar environment. X
