Japanese firm NEC said it has created an LCD TFT which is heart-shaped and which allows for more flexible display designs.
The prototype it's showing off at the SID conference in Los Angeles is a colour module made with two half circular arcs and two straight lines. Its displaywidth is four centimetres and it has a pixel pitch of 174 micrometres.
NEC said that the tech lets gate and source lines in the pxel array be optimised. The driver circuits are integrated into the module along the edge of the LCD glass and that means the bezel is only two millimetres thin.
LCD displays that are non-rectangular typically require thick bezels and so more power consumption. Typical applications might include speedometers and tachometers in cars. NEC didn't say when we could expect to see the arrival of LCD hearts. X |
