| | New Linux kernel hits the streets - Three months in the making By Dave Murray @ Monday, July 14, 2008 9:38 AM
Section - PCs/Software | | | | Linux creator Linus Torvalds has released version 2.6.26 of the Linux kernel, this time taking more than three months to develop the upgrade.
According to the Linux Kernel Mailing List, Torvalds said the 87 days since 2.6.25 makes 2.6.26 a longer-than-usual release cycle.
There have been nine release versions of this kernel before Torvalds felt it was done, and the changes from the release candidate (RC) 9 are small, with most just being documentation updates. Most of the changes for 2.6.26 are centred around architectural, I/O, and network driver enhancements, including wireless. A lot of work has also been done on virtualisation support in the Linux kernel. X
