Satyam Computer, the fourth largest exporter in IT issued offer letters to recruit from college campuses in February but has been delaying the the date of joining for the graduates. The candidates complained complained to the IT Examiner that they had been through all the prerequisites related to the recruitment as they were asked to join the company in Hyderabad in the first week of June, but their joining dates has been repeatedly postponed, the latest date coming up to the first week of September.
Now this brings up the question of whether the well known company trying to cut the operational expenses amid a slowdown in US, its largest market. Satyam said it had no intention to withdraw any of the offers, rather it is on its way to hire 12,000-15,000 people this year. Offers have been made to 7,500 college graduates, though they are not confident about the number of students affected by the postponement.
Whatever may be, the candidates are however suffering, since the ones who have discontinued education to join job are feeling like they are in the middle of nowhere, while the others are confused whether to wait or go for some other options. At this SV Krishnan, global head HR, Satyam, commented that, the individuals have to make their own decisions, in choosing their own profession.
After the cut down of IT budgets by American firms, Indian outsourcers are pressured to bring down the operatioal costs, thereby trimming bench strength, said Sudhakar Balakrishnan, CEO of HR consulting and staffing firm Adecco, India. X |
