The Aussie government is in hot water for choosing SAP software without calling for other companies to put in a bid.
The New South Wales Government wrote a cheque for $115 million to SAP without giving local companies a chance to tender.
Adrian Di Marco, the founder of local outfit TechnologyOne said it was unbelievable that such a contract should be awarded without seeing if someone local could do it.
With the government responsible for more than 40% of the national market, it means that just handing out contracts to foreign companies was distortion of the market, he said. This has been a major headache to local companies that could provide technology cheaper and keep cash and jobs in the country.
However, Dr Marco complains that the government tends to go for a big name. He said that there was 'an old boys club' in that only foreigners like Oracle, SAP and Mincom are allowed to bid for NSW Government business. X
