Olympics in the clutches of e-hackers.

Users warned to avoid opening emails

Cyber criminals' latest target is the Olympics. The enthusiasm of citizens, owing to the achievement of two individual medals for the first time in Indian history, has created a platform of advantage for the hackers.

Hackers have broken into accounts holding data on the Olympics and stolen them to send mails on events related to the game with the aim of trapping net surfers, writes Debopriya Nandy.

The '.doc' attachment in the mails contained the Trojan virus, which corrupts the system of a user. There is also a risk factor relating to Microsoft Word 2000, 2002 and 2003.

According to Niraj Kaushik, Trend Micro's country manager for India & SAARC, the affected patched versions of MS Office can be taken under total control through unspecified remote code-execution vulnerability by remote attackers. Users are warned to avoid opening unknown emails. X
