Thomas Kurian announced the release of Oracle's Weblogic Application Grid to a packed Moscone conference hall.

According to the senior VP of Middleware Fusion, the new product, which is based on BEA technology, will allow enterprises to link various applications in virtualised environments. Kurian also noted that conversion to a grid infrastructure would help businesses reduce costs and facilitate the efficient scaling of applications.

In addition, TK pledged that Oracle would build the best of breed middleware for SOA, transaction processing and content management.

"This release demonstrates our commitment to delivering the industry's most comprehensive foundation for developing, deploying, and integrating enterprise applications", said Kurian.

The Application Grid is comprised of JRocket, a high-speed Java VM and a hypervisor that allows the deployment of applications in a virtualised environment. It also includes the Oracle WebLogic Server and Coherence data management caching technology for computing clusters.

The Redwood City giant also announced a number of other important developments on Tuesday, including a new version of Oracle Optimized Warehouse. The "simplified" warehouse intiative combines Oracle's Database Enterprise Edition, RAC (Real Application Clusters) and partitioning with Dell's PowerEdge R900 server (four quad-core Intel Xeon 7400 series processors) and the Dell|EMC CX4-960 storage array.  X
