India not happy about RIM's Blackberries again

DoT concerned in wake of Mumbai atrocities

By Examiner Staff @ Friday, December 05, 2008 4:12 PM

touchscreen Blackberry handset in India is not the most popular gizmo of the day, given the terrorist attacks on Mumbai last week which implicated gadgets as part of the plan.

There is much to-ing and fro-ing between different government departments about permissions for the new Blackberry, the Press Trust of India reports.

People from Research in Motion (RIM) are lobbying for the Blackberry in India - worried about the security implications such a device might have.

The Press Trust of India source said it was unclear which computer equipment was used by the Mumbai terrorists. RIM wants to launch the touchscreen Blackberry in India - it is already widely on sale and advertised in San Francisco, America.

Approvals will be required. X
