Andhra Pradesh (AP) Chief Minister (CM) Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, not known to be tech-savvy, turned a blogger by writing a post 'Yes, we will' for a new website launched to promote the Congress party in the April Lok Sabha (House of the People) election.
The CM formally inaugurated the website, votecong.com, in Hyderabad. In his first blog, Reddy wrote he felt charged up to campaign for the ensuing election as it gave him an opportunity to meet people and renew his commitment to them.
'Mine is a simple vision: make power, water, food and education affordable and put money in the pockets of the poor. When the poor have money in their pockets, they will do wonders for our society,' the CM wrote.
In a scathing attack on N Chandrababu Naidu, currently the leader of the opposition in the Andhra Pradesh state assembly, Reddy said, 'He bends to every wind. In his (Naidu) own words, the only 'ism' he believes in is tourism.'
'When there was power on offer, he sidled up to the United Front on an anti-BJP plank. Two years later, when power swung to the other end of the scale, he was with the BJP. During his nine-year rule, he was a champion of anti-welfare policies. Today, in pursuit of power again, he is singing to a different wind.' Reddy said his ‘chief rival’ Naidu's ‘trinket promises’ would not carry conviction with the people because the latter 'bends to every wind in the pursuit of power.'
'Naidu's propensity to renege on his party's commitments and the U-turns occur because his promises do not come from a core of belief but from a flawed understanding of the purpose of politics,' Reddy lashed out.
Apart from the CM's blog, the site features blogs by actors Jayasudha, Jeevitha and Dharmavarapu Subrahmanyam. It also lists the various development and welfare programmes launched by the Congress government in AP. X
