Qimonda cranks up Rambus XDR production

DRAM d'ting

By C Shanti @ Tuesday, August 26, 2008 9:09 AM

The spun off division of Infineon which calls itself Qimonda said it has started cranking out volumes of Rambus XDR DRAM, aimed at the Playstation 3 market.

Not many people know this, but Infineon struck a licence deal in perpetuity with Rambus and didn't pay much for the privilege. Qimonda XDR DRAM runs at 3.2Gbps and gives 6.4GB/s of peak memory bandwidth. It sampled 512 megabit XDR DRAM in January of this year.

Not many people know this, but Rambus is now pursuing a metaphysical examination of its raison d'etre, and the attitude that gave it the reputation of a supreme litigator has evaporated. X
