Reliance Globalcom splits into four

Eye to compete with global majors

By Subhankar Kundu @ Monday, October 06, 2008 12:32 PM

The international telecom arm of Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (R-ADAG), Reliance Globalcom has planned to restructure its operation into four separate verticals. This move has come in an attempt to further penetrate the $285-billion in the global market.

The company will restructure its services under four business segments — Data, voice, WiMax and National Long Distance (NLD) services. This categorical segmentation will help the company to stress on increased revenue generation and customer segments.

The Reliance may be planning to place its bet on positioning Reliance Globalcom in the ranks of top five global communications players. The company is expected to compete with global majors like British Telecom Global Services, AT&T, Verizon Business and Orange Business Services in the data services segment.

There is no doubt in the fact that Reliance has been lackadaisical in its customer service front. This move may also help in augmenting capabilities to offer highly customer-focused offerings to end-consumers and businesses worldwide.

The group has reportedly decided to restructure Reliance Globalcom’s operations - Flag Telecom as Reliance Globalcom, Yipes Enterprises as Reliance Globalcom Services and Vanco group as Reliance Vanco Group under the four proposed verticals.

When contacted, a RADAG official has declined to comment on the development and its further details. X
