Relief from tele-callers starts on October 19th

Make some efforts to prevent things

The DoT (department of Telecom) has strictly directed all service providers to abide by the regulations on pesky calls and disconnect phone lines of all non-registered tele-marketing companies by October 19th.

DoT said that a compliance report regarding the matter must be submitted within a month of issue of this directive, which was issued on September 19th.

Following the directives RBI  (the Reserve Bank of India) last week asked the banks and their associates not to engage unregistered telemarketers. The step was taken to reduce the number of unsolicited calls.

DoT has also asked operators to publicise the facility of 'National Do Not Call Registry' (NDNCR) among the general public. To avoid unwanted calls one can register, their number in NDNCR by either calling 1909 or by sending SMS ‘START DND’ to 1909.

However, seeing the poor outcome of NDNCR, DoT is now considering a  Do call registry (DCR), using which users can register to receive unsolicited calls. This is opposed to NDNC, and is likely to be more helpful, since the number of subscribers registering for DCR will be less, and maintaining the record will be easy. All other numbers will be assumed as Do not call by default. X

Do not call registry was made operational last October, has around 9million subscribers enlisted.
