Satyam Computer Services has purchased land in Vishakhapattanam and Nagpur to set up two special economic zone (SEZ) facilities housing more than 18,000 software professionals in three to four years, reports the Business Standard.
Satyam has launched a development centre at a cost of Rs 100 crore ($22 million) in Pune that can accommodate 5,000 people. Satyam will use the new SEZ-notified unit to service its global clients in engineering, SAP and financial services sectors. The unit in Pune, where the company already has three centres, will be ready in 20 months.
Virender Aggarwal, Satyam's Asia-Pacific operations head, said that the SEZ-notified unit in Vishakhapattanam can house 10,000 people and its SEZ-notified unit in Nagpur can house 8,000 people. Satyam has 30 development centres in India and 19 in other countries. Agarwal said that the company’s development centre in Malaysia employed 650 people and that the number would soon be increased to 2,000 with the aim of serving the Singapore market.
Agarwal added that Satyam also has plans to launch operations in Australia, and has acquired a 25-acre land near Melbourne where its global development and delivery centre would be launched in three years. X
