Seagate censors complaints

Something fishy about barracudas

By Nick Farrell in Rome @ Friday, January 30, 2009 7:19 AM

While Seagate has admitted that there are flaws on its Seagate Barracada 7200.11 500GB hard drives, it does not like customers talking about them.

The company has issued a firmware upgrade, but it doesn't work if your drive has already been affected, and some customers have been complaining in strong terms on the company's forums.

Seagate's response seems to be to delete user posts about the issue, and even go so far as to disable links made on the Seagate forums to posts on other forums about it.

According to Consumerist magazine, the hard drives are still on the shelves with their faulty firmware that will cause the hard drive to go bad after a few months.

While the problem is global, and well reported on tech news sites, it is strange that Seagate still thinks that it can keep the lid on it by deleting all references to the problem on its forum. X
