Chip maker Standard Microsystems says that demand for notebook and desktop PCs fell significantly in the third quarter.
Corporate customers are especially nervous about buying new gear, SMC told Wall Street. The company expects sales of $90 million to $93 million. Analysts had been expecting sales of $106.3 million, according to a poll by Thomson Reuters.
Steven Bilodeau, chairman and chief executive, said that the third quarter was usually the company’s best. But since late August, there had been a significant decline in third quarter demand for desktop and notebook PCs.
The announcement comes on the back of falling second quarter profits. X
