Sony India is aiming to capitalise on the increasing demand for luxury products, with plans to capture 30 per cent of the LCD television market in India.
The company wants to achieve a turnover of $936 million (Rs 4,000 crore) in 2008-09, against last year's business of $702 million (Rs 3,000 crore). The primary growth categories for the company will be Bravia LCDs, Vaio laptops, camcorders and Cyber-Shot cameras, said Masaru Tamagawa, MD of Sony India.
It has plans to introduce more products like its OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) television in the country, and also wants to create demand for high-definition technology by flooding the Indian market with such products.
The Japanese company, which also wants to woo the rural market by strengthening its dealer network, will have to go head-to-head with Samsung. Samsung, which is also aggressive in the Indian market, recently launched three new LCD monitors in the country. X
