Sun Microsystems said it has released version 1.0 of Java FX, a development intended to help build rich Internet apps and content for Web browsers and desktops.
Sun claimed the announcement meant a broad extension of Java to make it applicable for not just computers, but for mobile devices and televisions.
It said that Java is already installed on over 90 per cent of desktops and laptops, and 85 per cent of mobile devices, and is positioned to dwell for TV set top boxes, Blu-ray players and the like.
Jonathan Schwartz, CEO of Sun (pictured right), said: "Java FX unifies Java technology across billions of such devices, with an easy to use, open source platform, now enabled with high quality video and audio."
Java FX includes a "drag to install" feature, allowing developers to move applets running in browsers to the desktop. Java FX can be downloaded from www.javafx.com. X
