India’s largest software exporter, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) announced today that it has bagged a multi-year contract with German semiconductor maker Infineon Technologies.
Under the contract, TCS will be in-charge of operating and maintaining Infineon’s Supply Chain Management (SCM). The Infineon SCM Planning operations will be operated out of Munich, Germany and Bangalore, India.
Outlining the reason for selecting TCS as the service partner, Infineon CVP IT & CIO, Michael Schmelmer, said, “By focusing on cost effectiveness and customer satisfaction, TCS brings to the table a very compelling delivery model which meets Infineon objectives and provides an excellent opportunity for being a long term strategic partner for IFX”.
Carol Wilson, VP and Global Head, Hi-tech Industry Unit, TCS said, 'Our Hi-tech Industry product unit offers enhanced domain expertise and greater customer centricity to clients from the high tech industry globally. TCS is strongly building on its footprint in Germany, and we are convinced that we will be able to help Infineon optimize their operations and achieve their corporate objectives.”
Well, we will have to see if the new contact really churns revenue for the company and it defers its decision to increase working hours for its employees from 40 hours per week to 45 per week. It was reported yesterday that the company plans the extent the working hours and it will be effective from April Fool's Day.
The company also plans to cut one per cent of its work force on grounds of poor performance. The proposal is most likely to affect 1,300 TCS employees worldwide. The company claims that it has nothing to do with the current slowdown and it is a routine work. However, we wonder why we never got to hear about such routine work some two years back, when IT companies were loaded with projects. X
