The pen is mightier than the Word

 Dear Mike

I've just read your article 'How to Stay Connected 24/7' with amusement.  For information, rather than being 'virtually defunct', Filofax is still a thriving multi-million pound worldwide business with seven international subsidiaries and distribution in over 50 other countries.

In the UK Filofax sells far more personal organisers now that at any point in the 1980s or 90s, the perceived heyday of the brand, with a market penetration of approximately 16% of adults.

Whilst I agree with your sentiment on the dangers of combining every aspect of your life into one device, it is not true that the plethora of electronic gadgets now available has led to the death of the paper organiser.  Our research shows that many consumers use a combination of methods to organise their life, both paper and electronic - I myself use a combination of my Filofax organiser, MS Outlook and my mobile phone on a daily basis.

Mobile phones, Blackberries and other electronic devices are obviously getting more sophisticated and more ubiquitous every year, but paper and pen will always have a place working alongside these devices, rather than being consigned to the bin.

Kind regards

Matt Watson
Communications Manager, Filofax UK
