TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) said it will end the process of unpaid leave for its staff from April 1st .
The world’s largest contract chip marker took the decision after it raised its first-quarter sales and margin forecasts last week, with the majority of orders coming from China.
TSMC CEO Rick Tsai, in a letter to his staff said, “Recently, the furlough days of business organisations have been gradually reduced due to rush orders. After considering the business need, the company has made the decision to terminate furlough.'
However, Rick also said that “the fundamentals of the economy are not significantly improved, we should remain cautious and watchful to our cost.'
The announcement may have brought a smile to the face of those who were in the manufacturing unit of the company and were asked to take five days unpaid leave per month since December. Other departments also took one day unpaid leave every week from January onwards.
Taiwanese chip, LCD and PC’s markers are expected to benefit in a big way from China’s recent plan to encourage spending in rural areas by subsidising purchases of electronics products. X
