TTSL to use CDMA network for GSM launch

Accelerates GSM roll-out

By Harsha Pramod @ Wednesday, May 21, 2008 10:59 AM

Tata Teleservices (TTSL) plans to use its code division multiple access (CDMA) infrastructure and retail network to accelerate its launch of GSM services across the country, reports the Economic Times.

TTSL has already received the go-ahead for GSM in Tamil Nadu, Orissa and Kerala and is likely to obtain GSM spectrum for the remaining areas later this year. The cost of the launch will not be excessive as the company is set to use its current active and passive infrastructure.

TTSL will, however, replace old electronics with state-of-the-art kit to enhance service offerings.X
