Two more ISPs agree to block 'child porn' sites

No more alt.binary addresses

By Dave Murray @ Friday, July 11, 2008 10:02 AM

Two more ISPs have agreed to block newsgroups on the grounds that they may contain child pornography.

AT&T and Time Warner AOL have signed the agreement with New York attorney general Andrew Cuomo. Verizon, Sprint Nexte and Time Warner Cable signed last month.

The move will spell an end to usenet addresses starting with 'alt.binary,' which New York believes is where child-porn images are often exchanged. AOL is blocking all Usenet newsgroups.

Meanwhile, all five are saying that they will search their servers to eliminate child porn images. But the five have also agreed to eliminate any site which is reported to them by the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children, Cuomo's office or customers.

Cuomo said that anyone who wants to make a complaint about a site can just log into http://www.nystopchildporn.com. X
