Two murdered students might have been scammers

Cat killed in Chinese Web betting unpleasantness

Auntie Beeb reports that two murdered Chinese previously enrolled at Newcastle University, Zhen Xing Yang and his girlfriend Xi Zhou, may have taken part in betting scams over the Internet and sold false visas. The couple were found beaten to death and their pet cat drowned in their downstairs flat in Newcastle's West End earlier this month.

The police stated that forensic examination of the couples PCs and mobiles revealed that the students were involved in various scamming and fraud schemes and had thus made a lot of enemies. Zhen Xing Yang apparently hired people over the Internet to go sit in football stadiums during a match and send updates of the games progress. Chinese television broadcasts soccer matches with a one minute delay, giving mobsters an adequate timeframe to place or change bets.

Mr. Zhen advertised on various websites in Mandarin, looking for people to watch matches. Both Mr Zhen and Ms Xi were allegedly also involved with forging professional qualifications. The police stated that Zhen held no job of any sort after he graduated from Newcastle University in September 2006.

Zhens antics seem to have upset a few people. He was apparently assaulted for over an hour until his attackers finally stabbed him, whilst Miss Xi was allegdly asphyxiated as well as stabbed to death. She was caught on CCTV heading home from a restaurant before her murder.

People are advised not to enter into Web scams if they prefer to stay alive. X
