The US Army has given the University of California more than $4 million to study the foundations of "synthetic telepathy."
According to Wired, there would be a noninvasive brain imaging technology like electroencephalography which would let people communicate thoughts to each other.
A soldier would "think" a message to be transmitted and a computer-based speech recognition system would decode the EEG signals.
Decoded thoughts are transmitted using a system that points in the direction of the intended target.
It would mean that soldiers could carry out night attacks without having to shout out orders to each other. It also means that if a solder was injured they could still talk to medics and intelligence offers about what they had seen. X
