Web software spreads malware

Growing threat

More than 85% of malware is being distributed through Web software, according to a new study by security company Webroot.

The study said that this situation will cause increasing problems for companies as employees use their web browsers for social networking, video watching, and personal e-mail at work.

The survey shows that web-borne malware has increased by 500 percent over the last 12 months and is becoming an important tool of choice for hackers.

Over a quarter of companies who responded to Webroot's survey said that data had been compromised by a Web-based threat. A third claimed that employees using computers at work to access social networks, Web-based e-mail, and video sites had caused a security breach.

However only 15% enforce Internet usage policies on their employees. X
