West Bengal to become major IT hub

NASSCOM takes a dekko

By Umli Miuli @ Thursday, May 15, 2008 1:21 PM

The West Bengal government’s recent effort towards the growth of economic activity in the state has attracted the prime body of IT industry, NASSCOM.

With the availability of favourable factors like high quality human resource, good telecom and physical infrastructure, and competitive operational costs in the state, Kolkata became the prime choice of NASSCOM to set up an eastern regional council to strengthen its focus on the eastern region, having representatives from TCS, Wipro, Cognizant, Acclaris Business Solutions, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and Webel.

With the regional office in Kolkata, the state has been successful in gaining enough attention and opportunity to exploit its highly potential manpower. This expansion plan of NASSCOM has given immense boost to Kolkata, an emerging IT destination.

NASSCOM has kept its target at US$ 60 billion to be achieved by 2010. X
