| | As the IT sector in Kolkata continues to grown in view of the large scale expansion plans of major IT companies, so does the demand for trained manpower, writes Abu Mounir.
Moves are afloat to ensure a smooth flow of IT personnel by various companies and agencies. US based company Acclaris has already begun a training collaboration with universities in West Bengal. Under the programme, students take the opportunity to receive training from companies while pursing their university curriculum.
The programme benefits both the students and the company even as a good number of Burdwan university students secured direct recruitment in Acclaris. The University of North Bengal in Siliguri in the foothills of Darjeeling has also joined the training collaboration with the company which has a facility in Siliguri.
Meanwhile, Nasscom, a premier trade body and the chamber of commerce of the IT-BPO industry in India is set to introduce a special examination designed to assess students aspiring for IT careers. Called the NAC-Tech (Nasscom Assessment of Competence for Technology Grads) Examination, the test would help to pick the candidates with the right IT/Soft Skills orientation.
An estimated 200,000 IT openings are expected to be created in West Bengal alone in view of the quick growth in the industry.
Nasscom has even decided to establish a council in the eastern region of the country representing the key IT players from Kolkata. Manpower recruitment and cyber security are the two main concerns which the proposed Eastern Regional Council of Nasscom is expected to address. X
