Wipro attempts to clarify campus recruitment row

Hullabaloo at press meet

By Debopriya Nandy @ Tuesday, December 02, 2008 1:23 PM

Wipro Technologies told the press  that its new initiative in resourcing for campus recruits is optional, to let engineering graduates commence work without delay.

Pradeep Bahirwani, Vice President, Talent Acquisition, Wipro Technologies said ,”This is an option for engineering graduates to join our BPO division as technical support engineers.” He added that a technical support role needs  engineering graduates, and that the company would have to hire fresh engineers from outside, if it had not made this offer to campus recruits.

The company clarified the miscommunication that suggested about a price cut. It said that the salary stack will be retained. The employees experience will be considered relevant and continuous when they move into the IT services after 12 to 18 months.

Bahirwani also said, “If the students choose not to take up the BPO option, the offer for IT services holds good.” The current requirement for technical support engineers has come up at Wipro’s BPO facility hence engineering graduates waiting to join were given first right of refusal.

Wipro will offer a salary of 2.75 - 3.25 Lakhs per annum to those new recruits. It has recruited 13,500 and 95% of them accepted the offer to join BPO, according to a representative.

Bahirwani also added that Wipro continues to take on campus recruits depending on its business requirements.  X
