| | The Wipro-IBM webinar today failed to impress prospect attendees, as most of them were not allowed to experience the delights of the conference over the internet. Registered attendees faced problems in connecting; as a result the webinar saw only 27 attendees.
In order to gain know-how on e-commerce, which was the main objective of this free-webinar, a visitor required to register and the Wipro team would send a login Id and passport with which a user would be directed to the webinar. Well this all sounds hi-tech and simple, but that is not exactly what users experienced.
The webinar was scheduled between 3:00 -4:15 PM, but saw hardly any visitors, with the technical support telephone number prescribed in the registration mail buzzing like a cranky baby through out the evening.
When Examiner called to find out the reason behind the log-in glitch, Ashwini from Wipro said, “There was a problem earlier as the link we mentioned missed a key word but soon that was sorted out. In order to log-in, a user had to download event manager on their workstation before the event and then click on URL which would take them to the log-in site.”
A source close to the cockup told IT Examiner on the basis of strict anonymity that a lot of users were not able to attend the seminar because of the complexity of two URL’s provided with the registration confirmation mail. 'One cannot expect an attendee to have the patience of downloading the event manager first and then attempting to log-in. That makes the process very tedious and that is why many opted not to waste their precious time on it”.
Meanwhile, Ashwini said that as many registered users had not been able to attend the webinar, it would be rescheduled for a future date.
All we can say is, making good use of modern technology that supports the current economic condition is a fantastic idea but one needs to make sure that everything gets carried out well with much of exercise. X
*webinar - A Webinar is like web conferencing + teleconferencing which happens every day over the internet. The presenters and participants do not need to assemble at a common venue and everyone can be a part of it from their respective office/home. All that is required is an Internet connection and a telephone. And a bit of technical know-how. Oh, and probably best to avoid involving IBM and Wipro, eh?
