Wipro refused to comment on its dealings with the World Bank at its media briefing announcing Q3 results.
The company said it had no intentions of taking over Satyam, and said it was not trying to poach Satyam's clients. However, it admitted that if it was approached by Satyam’s clients, negotiations would take the normal route.
During the quarter, a drop was observed in hiring, down to 587 compared with 3,095 in the same quarter last year. According to Wipro, the company is consolidating its existing employees by deploying more effective people. The acquisition of Citi Technology Services has added a team of 1,600 people from the company.
On the BFSI sector, Wipro said that in the first half year the companies would do the repair work on their balance sheets. It expects opportunities to come from this sector in the second half of the year, when the focus will be on expanding operations.
Suresh Senapaty, executive director and chief financial officer of Wipro, said, "This year we are expecting growth from the infrastructure sector, and also will be looking forward at organic and inorganic growth options." X
