Internet major Yahoo Inc named Elisa Steele to its newly created role of chief marketing officer (CMO) as a part of the company's strategy to re-establish the brand worldwide.
Yahoo's chief executive Carol Bartz has decided to re-establish the CMO's position, who took over Jerry Yang in January this year. The last officer to hold the CMO's position at Yahoo was Cammie Dunaway, reports WSJ.
Bartz said: 'Yahoo's marketing strategy and teams have become decentralised over time, hiring Elisa in the CMO role will quickly mobilise our plan to integrate the function globally and more effectively represent the Yahoo brand.”
Yahoo's stock dropped throughout last year. In October 2008, the company declared 10 per cent job cuts globally. Yahoo has suffered more than its rival Google due to economic slowdown. Also, Yahoo has not been as successful as Google in earning revenues from search marketing.
Steele has served Netapp as a senior VP of corporate marketing before joining Yahoo. X
