Yahoo home page needs rethink

Too many users go commando

By Nick Farrell in Rome @ Wednesday, March 18, 2009 8:14 AM

Yahoo is having trouble making users happy over its prototype homepage Metro.

The page, dubbed Metro, is supposed to let users play around with what they see and install a number of applications, but the beta testers were not very happy with it.

Burke Culligan, senior director product management for Yahoo front doors, in an interview at Yahoo headquarters here said that Metro made it too difficult for people to continue with their accustomed practice of dropping by the page to scan for changes.

There were also far too many mouse clicks for people trying to have a quick look at their emails.

Culligan told Cnet that many Yahoo front page users want to keep abreast of events with updates a few times a day and they visit the site like a commando raid - quick in, quick out. Yahoo already has a customisable home page, My Yahoo and this will not be the same as the home page.

The sooner Microsoft takes over and fixes it, the better, we reckon. X
